After Terraforming the planet, the UFE had set up an outpost to conduct research in the desert, such as studying the plague that occurred in a few cities after nuclear strikes on Earth. It was planned to be replaced by a colony once colonization efforts had taken effect.
Around the same time the UFE were evacuating Earth, an outbreak had occurred at the outpost while the plague was being studied. The remaining scientists and soldiers decided to abandon the outpost and flee with the last UFE Fleet in the Sol System to the Centauri System, where the rest of the UFE had rendezvoused.
Now, the abandoned outpost has been overrun by the infected, and anyone left behind during the evacuation of the outpost were either infected themselves or consumed.
